
Mercedes Perez represents Mental Health Legal Committee at Supreme Court of Canada
October 17, 2013 - Ottawa - The Supreme Court of Canada heard oral arguments today and reserved its decision in the case of Brian Conception v. Her Majesty the Queen in Right of Ontario, et. al. The issue before an eight-judge panel of the Court was whether treatment orders for unfit accused under Part XX.1 of the Criminal Code can be delayed by the unilateral decisions of hospital administrators or whether courts must supervise the implementation of such orders. The Mental Health Legal Committee (MHLC) was granted intervenor status in this appeal and was represented by lawyers Suzan Fraser of Fraser Advocacy and firm member Mercedes Perez .
