Swadron Associates welcomes Arooba Shakeel
July 3, 2018 - Swadron Associates welcomes Arooba Shakeel as our 2018-2019 articling student. Arooba graduated with a Bachelor of Arts joint honours degree in Legal Studies and Sociology, with specialization in Criminology, from the University of Waterloo, where she was on the Dean’s Honours List in all four years of study. She then attended Western University Law School in London, Ontario, graduating this year.
While at Western Law School, Arooba was research assistant to a professor, a volunteer caseworker at Community Legal Services Clinic, and an executive member of the White Ribbon Committee. Given her effective advocacy skills, she was privileged with the opportunity to represent Western Law at the Gale Cup, a national law-school mooting competition After her first year of law school, Arooba was an intern at the office of criminal lawyer Lakin Afolabi. Following her second year, she was a summer student at Henein Hutchison.
Arooba has been a recipient of the Award of Excellence from Pakistan Canada Association for her academic accomplishments and community involvement. She has also received a Leadership Certificate from the University of Waterloo.
Arooba is excited to join our firm and utilize her passion for social justice to provide exceptional legal service to our clients. She is particularly interested in public interest advocacy, victim’s representations, human rights and professional negligence. Arooba speaks Urdu, Hindi and Punjabi.
